L’ultima spiaggia di Palermo

IT/DE 2018, 18 min

Italian

synopsis

The sea is felt, presumed, but is nowhere to be seen. Nor does it wish to be seen. The story of Palermo’s complicated relationship with its sea, a vital space in the life of Palermitans, and yet denied throughout the city’s history. It focuses on the characters that breathe life into the last remaining bathing beach in the city center, Porticciolo Sant’Erasmo.

The Last Beach of Palermo came about as part of the Creative Curious Travellers artistic residence to which I was selected in the summer of 2017. It took place in Palermo during the Manifesta 12.
